Learning Java Through Media Computation

Description: 
This is a set of 4 sessions: Intro to OO Programming concepts and Java Turtles, Intro to Media Computation and image manipulation using objects, methods, arrays, and loops; Image Manipulation using 2d arrays and conditionals, Manipulating sound using ranges in iteration and methods that return values; also a look at inheeritance using Java Turtles.

Object Oriented Design Using Pong Learning Module

Description: 
In this learning module students will design and implement Pong using object-oriented (OO) programming concepts. Lesson plans, worksheets and Java source files are included. Programming Ideas V2

Description: 
"This is a collection of ideas for exercises, test questions, projects, etc. It is not a collection of exercises, test questions, projects, etc. This collection is meant to be used when the teacher first begins to design an assignment or test and needs some ideas. This collection is no good to the teacher who is in a panic and needs a string exercise for a class starting in five minutes!

Project: Apartment Management

Description: 
This is a final project presented to participants at the U of Miami, FL JETT workshop. This requires analysis and design as well as the use of 2d-arrays. The programmer is encouraged to make the interactive input "idiot proof" and user friendly.

Sorting Algorithm Project

Description: 
The present project will give students an opportunity to research, learn and compare 2 sorting algorithms and present their findings to their peers. The project is given to the students after they have learned about arrays, reading and writing to text files, and bubble sort. Two students’ projects are also included as an example to show to the class, or to be used for teaching.

Teacher's Lesson Plan Overview for ICS 3M Final Programming Assignment

Description: 
This resource is an end of term†programming project that was designed for an ICS 3M computer science course. The project was created as part of a bachelor of education degree and has not yet been implemented in a classroom. The project leads students through the process of creating a program with a real world application. The guidelines and implementation of the project are flexible.

Unit Testing

Description: 
For this lab students will take a previous program (SpellChecker from the Data Structures entry from Virginia Tech), learn how to develop test cases and develop techniques to use these cases to test the program. Thus students will hypothesize about program behavior and then experimentally verify their hypotheses.

Visual Sorting Demos

Description: 
This Java applet shows a variety of sorting methods, visually. It includes a small quiz where students can see if they can recognize a sort method from the pattern of the movement of the elements of the array. It’s online at http://mmhs.ca/compsci/applets.htm#Sorting. NOTE: A few applets may have incompatibilities with some browsers and/or platforms.
